A coastal goliath that tops out at over 300 ft (91 m), this spruce rarely travels inland from the Pacific Ocean more than 30 miles (4.8 km) or so until reaching the far north of Canada and Southeast Alaska. It is considered to have the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any wood.
Fun Fact: The famed Spruce Goose airplane is made of Sitka spruce.
